The world we know and understand comes fundamentally from stories and the way they’re told.
Think back to the time when we were kids and the fair share of nursery rhymes, fairy tales, mysteries and novels that we all enjoyed.
Think also of the times you’ve gathered at our granny’s for festive get-togethers, and all the family talk that revolves around what we’re doing now, who’s doing what, and what you should be doing in this season of your life.
Cultures the world over are also steeped in stories. From the Aboriginal Dreamtime, to the Bhagavad Gita and probably the most well-sold story book of all, the Hebrew Bible – very often about how the world began, and the epic clash between Good and Evil.
Stories also provide us with a sense of history and forges a collective memory of events both big and small, that shape who and where and what we are. They remind us of things we sometimes prefer to forget. In better times, they’re like milestones we hope to pass to our next generation.
Stories also help us make sense of the deeper meaning beneath the ebbs and flows of life, which itself presents probably the greatest mystery – a bigger story, the story of all stories.
Finally, stories help people relate to each other. Think about the stories we tell ourselves, influenced often by societal and cultural norms, spoken or otherwise, and how that affects the way we live, work and play, and the ways in which we interact.
Whether we think about it or not, even our own lives are made-up of many sub-stories.
Our own story of humble beginnings as Karisma Media is both serendipitous and at the same time, a culmination or collection of various independent chapters of our life’s work and experiences so far.
All of which came together in a somewhat coherent whole, and which informs the way we endeavour to bring value through the work we do.
